The Canada Greener Homes Grant will help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient and fight climate change. Participants are eligible for up to $5,600 total under the initiative (up to $5,000 for qualifying energy efficient retrofits to their homes and up to $600 for EnerGuide evaluations).
Residents of Quebec and Nova Scotia need to apply directly through their provincial programs to book their EnerGuide evaluation and register. New Brunswick and British Columbia (West Kootenay) have requested that we direct residents in those provinces to go through the provincial program first to ensure homeowners can take advantage of the network of energy advisors already established in those provinces
To register for the Canada Greener Homes Grant Initiative, you will need to meet the eligibility criteria. You will need to undertake a pre- and post EnerGuide retrofit home evaluation. You will have to complete at least one retrofit that is recommended by your energy advisor and eligible for the initiative. Then, you will have to submit your receipts to receive your grant.

How the grant process works?
Step 1: Learn about the grant
Check that you meet all the eligibility criteria for the initiative, review the requirements, and learn more about the grant process.
Step 2: Register and book your pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation
To participate, you must register online on the Canada Greener Homes Grant Portal. Up to 700,000 grants will be available. A pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is the next step in improving the energy efficiency of your home. This evaluation is mandatory before you undertake your retrofits and will be performed by an NRCan registered energy advisor.
Step 3: Plan, document and complete your home retrofits
After your pre-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation is complete, you can review the recommendations and decide which retrofits work best for your budget and renovation plans. You can find the recommendations for your home in your Renovation Upgrade Report available on the Canada Greener Homes Grant Portal.
You will need to complete at least one retrofit that is both eligible and recommended by your energy advisor in the Renovation Upgrade Report.
Step 4: Book your post-retrofit EnerGuide evaluation and apply for the grant
After you have completed your home retrofits, you can start the grant process. You need to book your post-retrofit evaluation and submit the required documents online or by mail.
Once your post-retrofit evaluation is complete, your new EnerGuide label will show you how much more energy-efficient your home has become.
Step 5: Receive your grant
You will receive an email asking you to confirm your grant total. Once you confirm your grant total online, you will receive your cheque in the mail.
